Millions of People Are Moving Home Without Realising Their Broadband Won’t Deliver

21 November, 2025

Property listings can now display exact broadband speeds and available providers for individual addresses just like council tax and EPC ratings - as 'hidden nightmare' facing UK homebuyers finally solved.

For immediate release

Fifteen million people work from home either exclusively or part time. Yet over three-quarters of home workers say they are unable to work due to poor broadband speed and connectivity.

Buying a home is one of the most significant life-decisions people will make. Fast and reliable broadband is now the second most important factor for people considering buying a home after the location of the property.

Despite this, broadband information has been notably absent from property listings. While home movers can easily check council tax bands, EPC ratings, and flood risk, they've had no simple way to find out if a property has the connectivity they need. Most people only discover their actual broadband speed - and whether it's sufficient for their needs - after they've moved in.

Why broadband connectivity is vital for home buyers and renters

  • Millions of people are significantly affected by broadband speed and connectivity. Which? found that eight in ten people had experienced a problem with their connection in the last year.
  • Poor connectivity can slash property values by as much as a quarter. Three-quarters of home workers reported having to find a new place to work due to slow broadband in their homes, with one in five having to do this three to five times a month.
  • Seven in ten estate agents [69%] noticed an increase in enquiries about broadband since the pandemic, with three-quarters [74%] of enquiries relating to full fibre connectivity.
  • Four in ten [37%] estate agents said that a house with a broadband connection of just 300Mbps would be worth over £5,000 more than one without. One in ten said this could add £10,000 in value to the property.

BroadbandUK launches a new service to help find out what broadband speed their new homes have

BroadbandUK has launched the UK's first comprehensive broadband availability service for property listings in partnership with Nurtur.group. Participating estate agents can now display true broadband availability on individual property listings.

Home movers simply click the 'broadband' button on any property listing to instantly see which providers are available at that specific address, their actual broadband speeds, and connection types. The service is free to use and integrated directly into participating estate agency websites.

How it works

You can see how the estate agent tool works by clicking the links below (or Click here to cut to the chase!):

  1. Click on the Brock Taylor website and pick any rental or sale property. https://brocktaylor.co.uk/

Stats, data and new legal requirements

Meeting New Legal Requirements

The launch arrives as widely misunderstood regulatory requirements under the Digital Markets, Competition and Consumers (DMCC) Act mandate that estate agents must provide 'all material information essential for informed property decisions'.

Key regulatory points include:

  • Broadband connectivity now falls under mandatory disclosure requirements
  • Estate agents must display accurate internet capability data on property listings
  • From 6 April 2025, the CMA can fine businesses up to £300,000 or 10% of global turnover for breaches

The ‘Broadband Availability’ service addresses this compliance requirement whilst providing genuine value to buyers and renters who increasingly view reliable connectivity as essential infrastructure.

What do people use their broadband service for?

The Household Survey Findings Report 2025 found that 86% of people went online at home more than once a day, with over a third reporting greater use of the internet [34%] over the last year.

Vital social activities are now dependant on online access, including:

  • Using apps to send messages – 77% / 75% [superfast/not superfast broadband]
  • Sending messages by text – 67% / 73%
  • Email – 67% / 63%
  • Video chats – 62% / 60%
  • Social media – 43% / 49%

All about BroadbandUK.
BroadbandUK was founded in 2015 with a mission to help consumers make better-informed decisions about their broadband.

The company identified critical gaps in the market: existing speed tests were unreliable, and comparison sites were showing deals that weren't actually available whilst missing others that were. Accuracy was lacking across the industry.

Working closely with regulator Ofcom, BroadbandUK partnered with major internet service providers and infrastructure companies including Openreach to build a service based on accurate, address-level connectivity data.

After years of refinement, BroadbandUK developed the UK's first address-level broadband comparison service - moving beyond postcode estimates to provide property-specific information. This breakthrough made it possible to bring precise broadband data to the property industry for the first time.

Today, BroadbandUK's availability service covers over 30 million UK addresses, providing property-level availability, speed, and technology insights to estate agents and consumers. The company continues its mission to make reliable broadband information universally accessible and accurate.
